Project name: | Mkinkomo Dam Reclamation |
Client name: | Swaziland Electricity Board |
Location: | Matsapha |
Project description
The Mkinkomo reservoir sited on the Lusushwana river at Matsapha in Swaziland provides water via a canal to two hydro-electric power stations downstream.
Due to major siltation of the reservoir generating capacity was being reduced. Consequently, a contract was let by the Swaziland Electricity Board to dredge 1 million cubic metres from the reservoir.
In order to dispose of this material consideration was given to reclaiming an area of flat marshy ground adjacent to the reservoir. ZMCK were asked to investigate the practicality of constructing reclamation dams on the site and to advise the client on the feasibility of such a scheme.
ZMCK responsibilities
The services provided by ZMCK included a materials investigation, both on the dumping site and the dredged material, site surveys, a feasibility report followed by detailed design, contract documentation, tender let, adjudication and site supervision duties.
